Blizzard's BlizzCon slate spans near-term updates and longer bets
The company's opening-ceremony account places new franchise projects on a different timetable from its live-game updates.
Blizzard used its September 12 BlizzCon opening ceremony to outline projects stretching well beyond its next round of live-game updates, according to the company's recap on Xbox Wire.
The announced slate includes a StarCraft open-world shooter targeted for 2030 and Diablo V planned for spring 2029. Those dates describe future targets, not products available to players now.
Closer to the announcement, Blizzard placed Diablo IV's Season of Hell's Legacy on September 15 and said an Amazon class was planned for the first half of 2027. The recap also described further Overwatch and Warcraft updates.
The industry distinction is between maintaining an existing audience and building the next major release. Those efforts operate on different production schedules, even when announced on the same stage.
A conference slate is useful evidence of a publisher's stated direction. It does not by itself establish final development scope, commercial performance or certainty that long-range release targets will hold. This brief attributes the plans to Blizzard's own published account.
