Epic connects voice chat across Fortnite and its launcher apps

Epic's September 3 update lets friends use voice chat across Fortnite, the Epic Games Launcher and its mobile apps. Players can keep talking while playing different PC games or transfer a chat into Fortnite.

Party invitations can also bring friends into the same Fortnite lobby when they start the game. Epic says participants can mute, block and report others, including submitting voice reports for suspected rule violations.

The wider industry ambition is a social connection that survives a change of game or device. Epic says it is working toward offering these features to developers across platforms, stores and engines in 2027.

That developer-facing expansion is a future plan. It should not be treated as an integration a studio can ship today. Epic also places Rocket League's adoption and move to Unreal Engine 6 in 2027.

For platform operators, the current release is a concrete example of social features being delivered outside a single game's session. Its eventual reach depends on the integrations that follow.
