John Romero finds new publisher for redesigned game
Romero says the unannounced project is being rebuilt around a much smaller team after losing funding.

John Romero says he has secured a new publisher for his previously canceled game. Speaking to Video Games Chronicle at Gamescom Asia, he said the project remains in development but has undergone a complete redesign.
Romero said the plan has shifted from a team of more than 100 people to roughly 15 or 16. He confirmed that he had to lay off most of his staff while searching for a new publishing partner.
For developers, the practical consequence is a fundamental change in production scope, not simply a smaller staffing plan. Romero said the reduced team cannot build the game originally intended for 110 people, and he is now designing directly in Unreal Editor while directing the team.
Romero has not named the publisher or formally revealed the game. Former employees' LinkedIn posts indicate that the earlier project was a shooter.
