Valve points developers toward community trust against AI clones
Valve representatives emphasized developer defenses as Digital Sun Games delays a ReVamp public playtest over cloning fears.

Valve representatives suggested developers build trusted communities and make games harder to copy when asked about AI cloning at a developer conference in South Korea, Game Developer reports.
Business team members Tom Giardino and Marc Wilkinson were asked whether Steam had safeguards in place or planned. The questioner cited an email threatening to use AI to clone their game and release it first.
According to the report, Valve's response framed cloning as a law enforcement issue and resisted restrictions on development tools. Its advice emphasized earning player trust and creating complex games that would be harder to replicate.
For developers, the concern is already affecting public testing: Digital Sun Games is delaying a ReVamp public playtest over fears that AI clones could arrive first. Game Developer contacted Valve for additional comment.
