Remedy makes combat assistance more granular in Control Resonant
Adjustable mechanics illustrate a design approach that lets players change particular sources of difficulty.
Remedy is expanding Assist Mode in Control Resonant with separate controls for mechanics including enemy aggression, dodge timing, incoming damage and power recovery, according to lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov.
Writing on PlayStation Blog on September 10, Mohov described a system intended to let players adjust the parts of combat causing difficulty while retaining the rest of the experience. The announced PS5 launch date is September 24.
The controls can also increase difficulty. Players can narrow the dodge window or raise incoming damage, rather than using assistance only to make encounters easier.
Remedy says players can change Assist Mode during gameplay, begin with presets and then refine individual settings. Using the options will not prevent earning trophies or achievements.
For other developers, the useful design question is whether a single difficulty preset hides several unrelated barriers. Separate controls can expose those differences, though their effectiveness still depends on how clearly the options explain their effects. These details come from Remedy's account; they are not findings from a hands-on review.
